We stayed at Il Gatto for 3 nights in May 2011 and it was a great experience. Antonio the owner is a lovely man and was very helpful. It was very easy to make the reservation and when we got there by car, he personally welcomed us, pointed out the restaurants and places he recommended and told us where to park for free.
The apartment is very clean, has everything you need and is just seconds from the main square. It has a fully equipped kitchen… just need to buy food. Has a refrigerator, nice stove and oven. The place even has a washing machine. The bathroom was clean and spacious.
We were 2 families traveling together with 3 small children and it worked out perfect.
We highly recommend Il Gatto to anyone traveling to Cinque Terre and especially when traveling to Corniglia. |
IL Gatto in Corniglia was perfect. We only had two people and very much space. It was nice, as this stop was in the middle of our tour of Italy, and we could 'spread out' and regroup. Not to mention do our laundry in the washer in our apartment. The apartment was exceptionally clean and well stocked, although we did very minimal cooking or preparing of food. Antonio met us with freshly picked lemons, which will always be a favorite memory of the Cinque Terre area. We took our lemons along on our hikes and squeezed them into our water bottles - very refreshing and we thought of Antonio each time! The lemons (and tomatoes, canteloupe, oranges...etc.) do not taste nearly the same in Wisconsin! While Corniglia is the smallest town in Cinque Terre, it still has plenty of character, restaurants, cafes and social appeal. Every morning we ordered an espresso from Cafe Matteo and every evening sat outside the cafe and socialized with other visitors. There are a couple excellent restaurants, we loved La Posada, up on the hill toward the train station. Order the seafood antipasti for 16 euros each, well worth the steep price!!!! We did not have great service at Cecio, and would not go back.
I was worried about the fact that IL GATTO did not accept credit cards, but Antonio is extremely dedicated to keeping the area authentic. We had an excellent experience and would recommend IL GATTO to everyone we know! |
